2. Thoughts on Peace |
|
|
The best way to destroy an enemy is to make him a friend.
--Abraham Lincoln
While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it
even more fully in your heart.
--St. Francis of Assisi
There is no way to peace. Peace is the way.
--A.J. Muste
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
--Mohandas K. Gandhi
Peace is not a relationship of nations. It is a condition of mind
brought about by a serenity of soul. Peace is not merely the absence of
war. It is also a state of mind. Lasting peace can come only to peaceful
people.
--Jawaharlal Nehru
All we are saying is give peace a chance.
--John Lennon
Nothing that I can do will change the structure of the universe. But
maybe, by raising my voice I can help the greatest of all causes -
goodwill among men and peace on earth.
--Albert EinsteinIf we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten
that we belong to each other.
--Mother Teresa
Nonviolence means avoiding not only external physical violence but also
internal violence of spirit. You not only refuse to shoot a man, but you
refuse to hate him.
--Martin Luther King, Jr.
In peace, sons bury their fathers; in war, fathers bury their sons.
--Herodotus
Peace is more important than all justice; and peace was not made for the
sake of justice, but justice for the sake of peace.
--Martin Luther (1483-1546)
At some ideas you stand perplexed, especially at the sight of human
sins, uncertain whether to combat it by force or by human love. Always
decide, "I will combat it with human love." If you make up your mind
about that once and for all, you can conquer the whole world. Loving
humility is a terrible
force; it is the strongest of all things and there is nothing like it.
--Dostoyevsky
Mankind must remember that peace is not God's gift to his creatures,
peace is our gift to each other.
--Elie Wiesel
Observe good faith and justice toward all nations. Cultivate peace
and harmony with all.
--George Washington
Without inner peace, it is impossible to have world peace.
--Dalai Lama |

PROFESSIONAL PEOPLE POSED THIS QUESTION TO A GROUP OF 4 TO 8-YEAR-OLDS:
"WHAT DOES LOVE MEAN?"
THE ANSWERS:
"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different. You
know that your name is safe in their mouth."
Billy - age 4
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still
friends even after they know each other so well."
Tommy - age 6
"When you love somebody, your eyelashes go up and down and little stars
come out of you."
Karen - age 7
"Love is when mommy sees daddy on the toilet and she doesn't say it's
gross."
Mark - age 6
"When my grandmother got arthritis, she couldn't bend over and paint her
toenails anymore. So my grandfather does it for her all the time, even
when his hands got arthritis too. That's love."
Rebecca -age 8
"Love is when a girl puts on perfume and a boy puts on shaving cologne
and they go out and smell each other."
Karl - age 5
"Love is when you go out to eat and give somebody most of your French
fries without making them give you any of theirs."
Chrissy - age 6
"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired."
Terri -age 4
"Love is when my mommy makes coffee for my daddy and she takes a sip
before giving it to him, to make sure the taste is OK."
